Meade's #38A dark blue filter, with 17% transmission, is a popular filter for the study of Jupiter's disc. It strongly rejects orange and red wavelengths of light, increasing contrast between the reddish belt structures and enhancing detail of the Red Spot. It is also useful for the study of isolated phenomena such as dust storms on Mars as well as Saturn's belt structure. Subtle cloud markings on Venus will have increased contrast.
