I purchased this eyepiece to use it for one of my astronomy courses which includes practical activities such as measuring lunar features, calculating the mass of planets based on orbit analysis if their moons, and taking measurements of binary stars.  The eyepiece has proven to be a reliable tool and met all my expectations.  The image is clear, the grating is of good quality, and the variable illuminator works as expected.  I do not use it for guiding, as I have a dedicated eyepiece for that purpose, but I dont see any reason why this eyepiece could not be used for that purpose as well.  Overall, a very good purchase if you into more than just observation and want to start some quantitative measurements.
