Why is this thing still made?
As most people who probably own or owned this motor drive I bough it because it was cheaper than its $55 counterpart. I came to quickly despise this motor, sell it, and opt to track by hand and wait till I had the disposable income to buy its much more evolved brother the Orion EQ-2M electronic drive.
This motor has really nothing going for it, but where to start . . . First off its bulky and and will hinder motion when pointing your scope at zenith. It is clutchless, so there is no easy transition from motor tracking to slow motion hand tracking. Its power hungry (9v batteries are not cheap) and as power wanes so does the speed. Its loud, coffee grinder loud. Most irritatingly, there are no set speeds for tracking anything in particular, just a tiny dial (good adjusting this thing with gloves on) that youll be fiddling with the whole time your trying to track say a planet at high power, inducing vibrations which is what the point of hands free tracking is about.
All in all a worthless product, save your money for the EQ-2M electronic drive or just use the manual tracking knobs.
