Meade Series 4000 26mm Super Plossl 1.25"

Manufacturer : Meade
Part Number : 07175-02

Meade Series 4000 eyepieces yield the widest possible fields of view, consistent with pinpoint edge-of-field sharpness and long eye relief—and yet with extremely low astigmatism, spherical aberration, and off-axis color. Incorporates 7-layer multi-coatings, edge-blackened optics, and sophisticated 4- to 8-element designs.

The world standard in telescope oculars, Meade Series 4000 eyepieces yield the widest possible fields of view, consistent with pinpoint edge-of-field sharpness and long eye relief—and yet with extremely low astigmatism, spherical aberration, and off-axis color. Incorporating 7-layer multi-coatings and edge-blackened optics for optimum image contrast, these sophisticated 4- to 8-element designs permit levels of optical performance generally impossible to achieve with eyepieces of fewer elements.

All Series 4000 eyepieces include a soft rubber eyeguard, custom fitted to each eyepiece with a bayonet mount. The eyeguards fold down for eyeglass wearers, and in fact the folded eyeguard shields eyeglasses from coming into contact with the metal eyepiece housings. Rubber grips are provided on all but the three shortest focal length Super Plössl eyepieces.

Super Plössls: Designed to utilize the very latest in optical glass types, Meade 4-element Super Plössls are excellent general-purpose eyepieces. For observing hairline lunar and planetary detail, splitting close double stars, or for resolving faint nebulosity in deep-space, Meade Super Plössls optimize the performance of any telescope type, whether f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain, f/16 refractor, or f/4 reflector. They also operate well in conjunction with the air-spaced design of the Meade #140 2x Apochromatic Barlow. All focal lengths through 32mm are parfocal. The Super Plössl 56mm eyepiece with 2" O.D. barrel yields 36X and an actual field of view of 1.4° on an 8" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope.

Not for fast scopes
This came with my Meade LXD75 SN-8 f/4 Schmidt Newtonian. I see moderate astigmatism and considerable lateral color and coma starting about halfway to the edge of field. There is considerable flare on bright objects. My Celestron Omni Plossl EPs outperform it by a very noticeable degree, and for less cost. The Omni EPs are also better finished and have better coatings for more contrast and much better planetary views. If you wear glasses, this EP still provides not quite enough relief to see the entire field. This is not the old Meade 4000 Super Plossl that had a much higher reputation, as it is now made in China.

very nice in an f/6
Ive not had any problems with astigmatism with this EP in my MN61 f/6.  Views are always nice and bright, clear, and eye relief is comfortable.

Less than impressive!
I received one of these eyepieces with my new LXD-75 SN-10 AT telescope as the one furnished in the system package. It is moderately astigmatic and exhibits lots of coma with this OTA. Save your money and buy something better! It might work better on a slower f-ratio scope than an f/4.
