TheSky6 SAE First Glance
Just received my copy of TheSky6 and have had some time to work with the new software. If you are a Sky5 user then the upgrade will be an easy transition. What ever you do in 5 you can do in 6. The graphics are a MUCH needed improvement, but they still dont compare to Starry Night Pro. One of the biggest down falls to the graphics is with the Planets. They are still just circles, unlike Starry Night where the planets have detail. Another thing that I find hard to deal with in TheSky6 is the way they have burried program options deep within sub-menus,(e.g. Object tips.)So why did I choose TheSky6... Because of compatibility issues with telescope control, Starry Night doesnt list my DSC interface as compatible. Also, an easy learning curve, I have been using version 5 for years and didnt want to have to learn a new program. All in All... This is an awesome program and well worth the upgrade from TheSky5. It has a ton of bells and whistles to make you Ooo and Ahh, and seems to be a solid program. I had no issues during the install and the program loaded without a glitch. One thing to be aware of, there is Hot Fixes that need to be downloaded from Bisques web site to update the program. 24MB worth of updates!!! Those of you with dialup connections... (like me) youve got an all night download to look forward to.
