The Mewlon Series of Dall-Kirkham Telescopes by Takahashi© combines refractor-like performance in a larger folded optic reflector design.  The Mewlon from Takahashi is available in a wide range of sizes for every budget, from 180mm to 300mm in aperture. Superb for planetary viewing (visual and photographic), the Mewlons are also superb CCD and film imaging telescopes. All are available with field flatteners for photographic use.

Mewlon-300 Cassegrain OTA Only. Price includes Frauhaber Swiss electric motor to focus secondary (no image shift whatsoever), tube holder, 11x70 finder, double finder bracket and tube weight.

You have dreamed of a reflector with exceptional and powerful optics, with a generous diameter and with the guarantee of an incredible contrast : Mewlon is for you ! Mewlon are Cassegrain reflectors using the Dall-Kirkham optical design. The elliptic primary mirror is associated with a spherical secondary mirror. The image is returned to the back of the instrument via an opening spared in the center of the primary mirror.

With its Cassegrain range reflectors, based on Dall-Kirkham optical design, Takahashi acted as a pioneer, and made Schmidt-Cassegrain other manufacturers outdated. This reflector with its excellent optical qualities can be used in a wide range of applications, and brings it on the top of the market. No worldwide mass production of reflectors can be compared to the Mewlon and be able to offer similar performances : compactness, power, rationality and versatility.

The precision of optical surfaces is at least of ?/20. This standard of quality induces a strong concentration of the light in Airy disc, physical image of a star looked through any optical system. The stellar images are more defined and contrasted. The Mewlon primary mirror, oversized compared to the effective aperture, is installed in a mirror cell especially designed to avoid stresses sometimes generating of astigmatism.

The focuser, often one of the weak points of the current telescopes, was particularly neat. The translating mechanism of the primary mirror of Mewlon 180mm and 210mm is machined with a particular care in the Takahashi workshops in order to reduce the shifting, to obtain a softness and an optimal regularity of focusing. Mewlon 250mm and 300mm are equipped with a the secondary mirror translating focuser, ordered with an electric handbox.
Equipped with a 50.8mm eyepiece holder in standard, you will be able to associate the most appropriate accessory with it, for visual, photographic or CCD use. The complete and coherent range of accessories proposed, will reach any of your goals.

The fixing of Mewlon on equatorial mountings is carried out using functional and effective dovetails. Their design facilitates frequent handling such as balancing or OTA assembly/disassembly without deterioration. Moreover, on Mewlon of large diameters, a counterweight is provided to balance the optical tube.
Mewlon integrates a high quality finder scope, associating luminosity and sharpness. This finder scope can also be used as a handle for transportation, without creating any bending or malfunctioning.

Takahashi Mewlon 300
This scope replaced my Mewlon 250 which was so good it motivated me to get the larger scope.

Over the years I have owned or observed with various scopes: Meade 8, 10, 12, 16; Celestron 11, 14; Tele Vue 85, Genesis sdf; my Tak FSQ-106, Mewlon 250 plus others.

The Mewlon 300 offers the finest and most contrasty view of the planets I have ever seen in any scope- by a wide margin. Its as if the scope removes a veil between the observer and whatever is in the field of view that other scopes ignore. For example, my view of M13 was only bested by my time at the Lick 36. This scope is that good. Even the Orion nebula, awash in moonlight, was a vast knot of smokey, curly mists that extended far beyond my 19mm Panoptic FOV.

Olympus Mons on Mars during the 2003 apparition, Saturns Encke division, an after moon-rise averted-vision glimpse of M57s central star and a direct view of M27s central star, the turquois globe of Uranus and the lunar terminator left me overwhelmed and anxious for more.

On both sides of focus, star images offered refractor quality difraction rings without any hint of color artifact.

I could go on.  If you have the chance to own one, buy it. If you have the opportunity to observe through one, do it. You will not be disappointed.

Mewlon 300
I have owned many scopes and none compare with the Mewlon 300.  On planets it outperformed the famous AP 180, AP 178, AP 155, TMB 9 and the list goes on.  When seeing will permit bringing this baby up to 700x on Jupiter or Saturn was no problem.  If you want the best views of planets, that you can ever hope to achieve then this scope is for you. If you are looking for outstanding deepsky object then look no further.  Taking M3 up to 355x and resolving the core was just spectacular.  Looking at objects of magnitue of 11.9 - 13.5 was amazaing.  Looking through a Tak FSQ106 and seeing nothing then in the Mewlon 300 with a Nagler 31 and wow there it is. Most of my observing is done with the Nagler 31mm  giving a FOV of .7 with 115x. The ONLY drawback to owning this scope it that when someone else looks through it they want to be your observing buddy for life.  The workmanship on the tube is second to none.  I can not say enough good things about this scope but there is a limit to the amount that can be said here.  If you are thinking of buying one RUN do not walk to own it.
