20mm Plossl eyepiece

PLOSSL EYEPIECES

Concept: For our first product, I wanted to refine the best known high quality eyepiece design, the 4-element Plossl. Optically, my design using high-index glasses improved the edge-field performance sufficiently to win U.S. patent (#4482217). Adding full multicoatings, blackened lens edges, parfocalization, anti-reflection and filter threads, saftey undercuts, and rubber eyeguards resulted in contrast, sharpness, and quality levels that launched our "spacewalk" quest. -Al Nagler

The Al Nagler eyepiece design that laid the foundation for the Tele Vue reputation.Since their introduction, Tele Vue Plossls have been a recognized benchmark of performance and value in the class of 50 degree apparent field of view eyepieces. With noticeably less astigmatism and lateral color at field`s edge, they deliver sharper images than any other 4 or 5 element "Plossl". For a bit more than generic brands, you can own a genuine Tele Vue Plossl. Remember, you`ll always be happy with the best.

User Reports:

"Our observatory has a 16" f/5, and I recently tested my 26mm and 17mm Tele Vue against a new (5 element competitive "Plossl"). The Tele Vue eyepieces were much sharper, with more contrast. Sharpness at the edge of the field was far superior." - Steven Sherrod, Past President Des Moines Astronomical Society.

"Sharpest I`ve ever used." -Richard Berry, Editor Astronomy Magazine

Well-reviewed and well-liked
I have 2 TV 20mms which I use for binoviewer and monocular viewing and am most happy with them.  They obviously offer excellent contrast and are lighter than a wider-angle eyepiece (at the tradeoff of field of view). They are also versatile, and offer a near-ideal exit pupil for many scopes, including mine, and are a great mid-power system for my SCT.  Not having the funds to do a side-by-side with similar Plossls, I looked at reviews (see this site and also cloudynights under Planetary Eyepiece Comparison) and found a rare, near-universal appreciation for the TV 20.  Its a safe bet you will be happy with this one.

UNDERRATED EYEPIECE..
I recieved this eyepiece, as im sure many have, with the purchase of my Televue refractor. I see this eyepiece for sale often and have seen it downplayed in some reviews. This is a very sharp and bright eyepiece. It makes a very good planetary eyepiece in large SCT or Mak. In a Televue 85 it gives 30x with an exit pupil of almost 3mm. Its 1.6 degree field is nice for milky way starfields, but I might prefer a Nagler or Panoptic. At $95 these are almost bargain. Im keeping it.

Excellent Part-of-Package EP
I received this EP with my TV 76 APO a few months ago, and have to say that I truly love this EP. Perfect for barlowing and starfields, lunar features and planet disks are just razor sharp with this EP. This has to be the finest EP I have ever had obtained as part of a telescope package purchase. Cant wait to try the TV 55mm Plossl

Good buy
A nice economical lens if that is what you need and at this focal length. Naglers and Panoptics offer less value or bang per buck and are for those, like me, who feel they must have them.  However, my position does not always make good economic sense.
