Baader Planetarium

The history of the name Baader in Astronomy dates back to the year 1852, when Michael Baader opened an Optical Manufacturing Company in the middle of Munich, after having worked since 1838 in the optical glass works company of "Martin Woerle" and being married with Woerle's daughter. Woerle had gained deep knowledge in the production of optical glass and the secrets of production and testing of achromatic lenses under direct supervision of Josef von Fraunhofer, one of the founders of modern optics and inventor of the "German Mount".

Baader Telescopes won prizes for excellent optics and mechanical workmanship at a number of International Industrial Fairs of that time from Berlin to Paris. Seven telescopes of Michael Baader are still to be seen at the present company as well as the prize awarding documents.

Claus Baader, the founder of the modern company Baader Planetarium, had designed a sophisticated orrery in the early sixties, which was patented in 1966. It was one of the first astronomical instruments of German origin to be tested in the magazine "Sky and Telescope".

Picture of 1.25" Baader Planetarium Fringe Killer Filter

1.25" Baader Planetarium Fringe Killer Filter. The REFRACTOR-FILTER for all visual observing and especially for CCD imaging. Dramatically reduces the bluish and reddish "secondary spectrum" of achromatic refractors while minimally altering the color fidelity of the image. Blocks near-infrared wavelengths from 700 to 1150nm for dramatically sharper stellar images in all refractors.

Picture of Contrast Booster Filter 2.0"
The ultimate contrast filter for all refractive optical systems. Eliminates color error of inexpensive achromatic doublet objectives to provide the highest level of definition while correcting color balance. Surface details on the Moon and planets stand out boldly. You haven't really seen Jupiter's Great Red Spot though your achromatic refractor until you've used this filter.

Picture of Baader Semi-APO Filter 1.25"
The Semi-APO filter benefits from all the host of world-class Baader filter attributes. The Semi-APO filter is truly the world's most advanced 'minus-violet' type filter in every regard. It's high efficiency and neutral coloration make it practically disappear in use - while making most of the violet fringe disappear! The effects on sharpness, contrast, and aesthetics are remarkable, even with small refractors.
